A bus carrying over 50 tourists on the Portuguese island of Madeira overturned and slid down a hill. Local media report as many as 28 fatalities, and there are fears that number may rise.
“There are fatalities but information on the number of victims is still not certain,” Canico mayor Filipe Sousa told the Lusa news agency.
Portuguese TSF Radio and SIC TV have reported the death toll of 28, with Euronews saying at least nine of the fatalities were German tourists.
